Dubai Court Orders Fake Police Gang to Repay Dh600,000 to Victim

Dubai: A criminal gang that impersonated police investigators to rob an Asian businessman of Dh600,000 has been sentenced to jail and ordered to repay the stolen amount following a final court ruling.
According to case details, the gang members posed as law enforcement officers to gain the victim’s trust before carrying out the robbery. After the criminal court issued its verdict and the judgment became final, the victim pursued a civil case to recover his losses.
The Dubai civil court ruled in favor of the victim, directing the convicted individuals to return the full amount of Dh600,000. In addition to repayment, the court also considered compensation claims linked to the financial and emotional damages suffered by the victim.
Legal experts note that UAE law allows victims to file civil lawsuits after criminal judgments are finalized, enabling them to seek financial recovery and additional compensation.
Authorities have repeatedly warned residents to remain cautious and verify the identity of individuals claiming to be officials, emphasizing that genuine law enforcement officers always follow proper identification procedures.
The case highlights the UAE’s strict stance against fraud and impersonation crimes, reinforcing protections for residents and businesses across the country.
