Abu Dhabi Bans Advertising of Unhealthy Food and Drinks in Public Spaces

Abu Dhabi: In a significant move to encourage healthier lifestyles, the Abu Dhabi government has introduced new regulations prohibiting advertisements for unhealthy food and beverages in public spaces across the emirate.

Under the updated guidelines, billboards, public transport ads, and other promotional displays in government-controlled areas will no longer feature products considered high in sugar, salt, or unhealthy fats. The initiative aims to reduce the promotion of junk food and sugary drinks that contribute to poor dietary habits.

Officials say the policy is part of a broader public health strategy to combat the rising prevalence of noncommunicable diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions. By limiting exposure to unhealthy food marketing, authorities hope to promote better food choices among residents, particularly children and young people.

The new measures align with the emirate’s long-term health vision, focusing on prevention, awareness, and community well-being. Businesses and advertisers are expected to comply with the revised standards within the specified implementation period.

The decision reflects Abu Dhabi’s ongoing commitment to creating a healthier and more sustainable environment for its residents.
