Can You Hold Two UAE Visas or Sponsorships at Once?

As a general baseline, a person can only hold one primary residence visa at a time; you can't simultaneously be sponsored under two entirely separate, competing residence categories, an employment visa with one company and a family sponsorship as a dependent of a spouse, for example, without one being formally the active basis for residency and the other either not applicable or requiring resolution first. Certain combinations, though, are explicitly built to coexist: a part-time work permit specifically allows a worker to be legally registered with a primary and a secondary employer simultaneously, provided both arrangements are properly registered with MOHRE, and a freelance permit can generally sit alongside other income activities without necessarily requiring an entirely separate visa category change.
Where genuine conflicts tend to arise is when someone tries to hold two separate sponsor-based residence visas at once without formally resolving one first, for instance remaining on a previous employer's sponsorship while a new employer also attempts to sponsor the same person, which the earlier cancellation requirement for job transfers exists specifically to prevent; a new employer generally cannot activate sponsorship until the previous sponsor's cancellation is formally confirmed. Similarly, an investor or freelance visa holder taking on standard employment elsewhere generally needs to think through which category will remain their primary basis for residency rather than assuming both simply run in parallel indefinitely.
Given how easily this trips people up, especially those juggling freelance work, a side business, and occasional formal employment, anyone unsure whether their specific combination of income sources and sponsorship arrangements is properly compliant should confirm directly with MOHRE or a PRO before assuming multiple simultaneous arrangements are automatically fine, since the underlying rule turns on which specific categories are involved rather than a blanket answer either way.
