Renew without the stress

Three habits that keep renewals cheap and fine-free

Set a 45-day reminderEmirates ID and visa renew together. A reminder 45 days out leaves time for the medical and any document fixes before expiry.
Do the medical earlyThe medical fitness test is the step most likely to cause delay. Booking it first in the renewal window removes the usual bottleneck.
Don't lean on the grace periodGrace periods exist but can change and don't always apply. Renewing before expiry is the only way to guarantee no overstay fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask before renewing

How much does it cost to renew a UAE residence visa?

A standard employment or family visa renewal in Dubai typically totals AED 2,500–4,000 per person: medical fitness test, Emirates ID renewal, residency stamping, insurance and typing fees. Renewals are usually a little cheaper than a first-time visa because the entry permit and establishment-card steps aren't repeated.

When should I renew my UAE visa?

Start 30 days before expiry. You can renew from about a month ahead, and doing so avoids any risk of overstaying. Emirates ID and the visa are renewed together; leaving it to the last day risks fines if any step (like the medical) is delayed.

What is the fine for a late UAE visa renewal?

Once a residence visa expires, overstay fines apply — currently a flat AED 50 per day under the unified 2025 structure, plus possible exit/re-entry or service charges. The fine accrues from the first day after expiry (after any grace period), so a few weeks late can add hundreds of dirhams on top of the renewal cost.

Is there a grace period after my UAE visa expires?

Residents generally get a grace period (commonly around 30 days, though it can vary) after the visa or Emirates ID expires to renew or exit without overstay fines. It's safest not to rely on it — renew before expiry, because the grace period and its length can change.

Do I need a medical test to renew my visa?

Adults renewing a residence visa generally need to repeat the medical fitness test (blood test and chest X-ray). Some categories and ages have different requirements, and Golden/Green visa holders renew far less often (every 10 or 5 years) so the medical recurs much less frequently.

Is renewing a Golden Visa cheaper over time?

Per year, yes. A Golden Visa renews every 10 years and a Green Visa every 5, versus every 2 years for standard visas — so although each renewal event costs more, the cost spread across the years of validity is much lower. Our multi-year projection shows this difference clearly.
