Frequently Asked Questions
What people ask before applying
How much does a family visa cost in the UAE?
Sponsoring a dependent on a 2-year family visa typically costs around AED 3,500–5,500 per person all-in, covering the entry permit, status change (if applying inside the UAE), medical fitness test, Emirates ID, residence stamping, basic health insurance and typing fees. Costs repeat at renewal, minus the one-time entry permit.
What is the minimum salary to sponsor a family in the UAE?
A sponsor generally needs a monthly salary of at least AED 4,000, or AED 3,000 plus employer-provided accommodation, to sponsor a spouse and children. Sponsoring parents has stricter requirements — commonly a salary around AED 20,000 (or lower with suitable accommodation, depending on the emirate) plus a refundable deposit and mandatory insurance.
How much does the UAE Golden Visa cost?
Government fees for the 10-year Golden Visa are typically around AED 4,000–5,000 in total, including the application, medical test, 10-year Emirates ID and residence stamping. The bigger cost is qualifying for it — for example AED 2M+ in property for the investor route. Family members can be added for roughly AED 3,000–4,500 each.
What does an employment visa cost in the UAE, and who pays?
A 2-year employment visa typically costs AED 4,500–7,000 including the work permit, entry permit, medical, Emirates ID, stamping and insurance — and by law the employer must pay recruitment and visa costs, not the employee. Costs vary by company category and skill level under MOHRE rules.
Do visa costs differ between Dubai and other emirates?
Yes, moderately. Dubai (GDRFA) fees are usually the benchmark and slightly higher; northern emirates can be 10–20% cheaper on some items. Free zone visa packages also bundle costs differently from mainland applications. This calculator uses Dubai-basis figures — treat other emirates as slightly lower.
What happens if I apply inside the UAE vs from outside?
Applying inside the UAE (converting a visit or cancelled visa) adds a status-change fee of roughly AED 750 per person but avoids exiting the country. Applying from outside skips that fee — the person enters on the new entry permit — but adds travel. Urgent/express processing is available for most steps at an extra fee.
