TRN Format Checker
Paste a UAE Tax Registration Number to check the structure instantly, then jump straight to EmaraTax for the official live check.
Format check only. There is no publicly published checksum formula for UAE TRNs, so no tool can prove from the digits alone that a TRN is genuinely registered — that check only exists inside the FTA's own EmaraTax system. This tool checks length, digit-only content and the mandatory 100 prefix so you can catch obvious typos or fake numbers before relying on them, but a correctly formatted number is not proof of an active FTA registration.
UAE TRN structure
| Segment | Digits | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Prefix | 1–3 | Always “100” — the FTA's VAT registration scheme identifier |
| Registrant sequence | 4–12 | Unique to the taxpayer, assigned by the FTA at registration |
| Internal digits | 13–15 | Additional FTA-internal identifiers, not independently checkable |
Every valid TRN is exactly 15 digits, numeric only, with no letters, spaces or dashes. A 16-digit number, or one that doesn't start with 100, is never a valid UAE TRN.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this tool confirm my TRN is actually registered with the FTA?
No. There is no publicly documented checksum formula for UAE TRNs, so no tool — including this one — can mathematically prove a TRN is real from the digits alone. This checker only confirms the TRN is the correct length, is numeric, and starts with the mandatory 100 prefix. To confirm a TRN is genuinely active and see the registered business name, use the free official lookup on the FTA's EmaraTax portal.
What is the correct format of a UAE TRN?
A UAE Tax Registration Number is always exactly 15 digits, contains no letters, spaces or dashes, and always starts with the prefix 100, which identifies the FTA's VAT registration scheme. Any number that is shorter, longer, or does not start with 100 is not a valid TRN format.
Why would a supplier show an invalid TRN on an invoice?
It usually means the number was mistyped, the supplier is not actually VAT-registered, or the TRN shown was invented. Since 2018, only FTA-registered businesses may legally charge VAT, and paying VAT to a supplier with an invalid or unregistered TRN can mean you permanently lose the ability to reclaim that input tax, so it's worth checking before you pay.
Where do I verify a TRN is genuinely active?
The only authoritative source is the Federal Tax Authority itself, through the EmaraTax portal's free TRN verification service. It looks up the number against the FTA's live register and returns the registered legal name if the TRN is active, or tells you it does not exist if it isn't.
Where can I find my own company\u2019s TRN?
Your TRN appears on your FTA VAT registration certificate, on every tax invoice you issue, and inside your EmaraTax account under your tax registration details. It does not change once issued.
