For a first-time applicant, the Emirates ID process is tied directly to the residence visa process: it can't be completed until an entry permit is active or an in-country status change is finalized, and it depends on a completed medical fitness test being uploaded to the system before the card can actually be issued. A common and avoidable delay happens when someone applies for their Emirates ID on the same day as their medical test, since results typically take a couple of business days to appear in the system; applying too early just means waiting on a status that hasn't updated yet, rather than there being an actual problem with the application.

Cancellation, similarly, is tied directly to residence visa cancellation, happening automatically as part of that process rather than requiring a separate step, which is worth knowing if you're managing an employee's departure or your own exit from the country.
