Your business description is the most important paragraph on your page. Customers read it to decide whether you can help them. Search engines read it to decide when to show you. And on a platform with smart matching, it is also what helps the system understand which businesses should hear about you. Yet most descriptions say nothing useful. This guide gives you a simple formula, examples and a checklist.
What a good description must do
A strong description answers four questions in the first few lines:
- What do you sell? Name the actual products or services.
- Who is it for? Offices, families, restaurants, new companies.
- Where do you work? The emirate or area you serve.
- Why choose you? One real reason: speed, experience, a specialty, a guarantee you honour.
The four-sentence formula
Use this structure and fill in your own details:
Sentence 1: [Business] provides [main product or service] for [type of customer] in [emirate or area].
Sentence 2: We specialise in [two or three specific things].
Sentence 3: [One real strength, such as years of experience, fast turnaround or bilingual support].
Sentence 4: Contact us on [phone/WhatsApp] to [next step, such as get a quote].
Before and after examples
Printing shop
Before: "We offer quality printing solutions for all your needs."
After: "Al Noor Printing provides business cards, brochures and branded stationery for offices and small companies in Dubai. We specialise in short runs with fast delivery. Most orders are ready within two working days. Message us on WhatsApp for a quote."
Accounting firm
Before: "A professional company offering excellent financial services."
After: "Gulf Accounting Services provides bookkeeping, VAT filing and payroll support for small businesses in Sharjah and Dubai. We work with restaurants, shops and trading companies. Our team handles your monthly records so you can focus on customers. Call us to book a free 15-minute consultation."
Words to use and words to avoid
- Use specific nouns: stationery, VAT filing, air-conditioning repair, wedding photography.
- Use local words: the emirate, the area, the type of customer.
- Avoid empty phrases: "quality", "professional", "best", "solutions", "all your needs". Everyone says them, so they prove nothing.
- Avoid claims you cannot prove: "number one in the UAE" invites doubt.
How long should it be?
Aim for 80 to 200 words. Short enough to read on a phone, long enough to include your specific products, customers and location. If you have more to say, move it into separate products, offers and blog posts instead of one wall of text.
Why this also helps smart matching
On a platform with a Business Network, the system compares the words in your description and products with those of other businesses to suggest who should contact whom. A specific description gives it better material, which means better suggestions for you. Learn more in our guide to finding business customers.
Checklist before you publish
- Does it name your real products or services?
- Does it say who you serve and where?
- Is there one honest reason to choose you?
- Is there a clear next step?
