UAE Visa for Canadian Citizens: 2026 Entry Guide

Published 28 Jul 2026 · 2 min read

Canadian passport holders sit in one of the more straightforward entry categories for the UAE, receiving a free 30-day visa on arrival rather than needing to apply for anything in advance, provided the passport itself meets the standard six-month minimum validity requirement applied across nearly every UAE visa category.

This visa-on-arrival stamp is issued automatically at immigration and does not require pre-registration through ICP, GDRFA, or an airline portal the way visa-required nationalities do. It can generally be extended once for an additional 30 days for a fee, taking a Canadian visitor to roughly 60 days total before an exit or a fresh entry becomes necessary. Canadian nationals holding a valid residence permit in one of a small list of approved countries have, in some cases, also been cited as eligible for the UAE's broader visa-on-arrival framework independent of their Canadian passport, though the passport-based 30-day entry remains the standard and most reliable route for most travelers.

Canadians relocating for work or investment rather than a short visit still need to go through the standard residence visa process relevant to their situation, an employment visa sponsored by a UAE employer, an investor or Golden Visa route, or one of the newer self-sponsored categories like the Green Visa or the virtual work visa, since the visa-on-arrival stamp itself does not carry any work authorization and expires well before residency-level documentation would typically be needed.

Given how visa-on-arrival eligibility lists and their specific conditions have been adjusted more than once in recent years, Canadian travelers planning a trip close to a policy update, or combining a UAE stop with travel to a country with different entry rules, should confirm current requirements directly through ICP's official channels or their airline shortly before departure rather than relying on older guidance.
