United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) was founded in 1976 by Federal Law No. 4, issued by the nation's founding President, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, making it the oldest and largest university in the UAE. It is located in Al Ain, an oasis city in the Abu Dhabi emirate roughly 140 kilometres from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, known locally as the Garden City for its palm groves and natural springs.
