The American Community School of Abu Dhabi (ACS) was founded in 1972 by a group of American expatriates, including families associated with the US Embassy and major oil companies, evolving from an informal setup that began in 1969. The school's first purpose-built campus opened in Al Bateen in 1975 on land donated by the late President Sheikh Khalifa, and a high school was added in 1991 as the school continued to grow.
In January 2024, after more than 50 years on its Al Bateen campus, ACS relocated to a new, environmentally sustainable campus on Saadiyat Island, close to New York University Abu Dhabi, complete with a FIFA-sized football field. ACS is a nonprofit, American standards-based curriculum school serving around 1,200 to 1,315 students in KG1 through Grade 12, representing more than 80 countries, and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
