How much does Salik cost per crossing?
Each Salik gate charges a flat AED 4 per crossing, deducted automatically from your linked account balance. It applies every time you pass under a gate, in either direction, with no time-of-day variation.
Is there a maximum Salik charge per month?
Yes — Salik charges are capped at AED 250 per vehicle per month system-wide. Once your crossings for the month total AED 250, further crossings that month are free. Commuters who cross 2–3 gates daily often hit this cap well before month-end.
How many Salik gates are there in Dubai?
Dubai has multiple Salik gates on major roads and bridges (including Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge, Airport Tunnel, Al Safa, Al Barsha, Business Bay Crossing and others). Each gate you pass through charges separately, so a single trip can cross more than one gate.
What happens if my Salik balance runs out?
If your balance goes negative, Salik continues to charge crossings and the negative balance is billed to your linked bank account or credit card via the RTA's recovery process, sometimes with an additional fee. It's best to keep auto top-up enabled to avoid this.
Can I get a Salik refund or dispute a charge?
Yes — disputes (for example, a charge while the vehicle was sold or off the road) can be raised through the Salik app or RTA channels, typically within a set window of the transaction. Keep sale/transfer documents to support any dispute.
Does every car need a Salik tag?
Yes — Salik is now tag-free in Dubai; charges are linked automatically via vehicle plate recognition to your registered account, so every vehicle using Dubai's roads should have Salik account details up to date to avoid billing issues.
