About this experience
The Louvre Abu Dhabi opened in 2017 as the first universal museum in the Arab world. It is arranged chronologically rather than by civilisation, so objects made in the same century by different cultures sit side by side — a genuinely different way to walk a collection, and the reason it deserves more than the hour most visitors allow.
The building is the other half of the attraction. Nouvel's 180-metre dome filters sunlight through eight layers of perforated steel into a shifting dappled effect on the plaza below — the "rain of light" — which changes hour by hour and is at its best in the couple of hours before sunset.
