Eligibility for a transit visa generally depends on holding a confirmed onward ticket with the sponsoring airline, and the traveler's passport needs to meet the same baseline validity requirement (typically at least six months) that applies across UAE visa categories generally. Given how transit visas offer a genuinely valuable opportunity to experience Dubai or Abu Dhabi during what would otherwise be idle layover time, travelers with a long connection through a UAE hub airport should check their eligibility and apply well before their travel date, since same-day arrangement at the airport, while sometimes possible, generally carries more uncertainty and time pressure than applying through the airline's official channels in advance of the actual travel date.
