UAE Visa for EU Citizens: 2026 Entry Guide

Published 28 Jul 2026 · 2 min read

Citizens of European Union member states are generally grouped together in UAE visa guidance as one of the nationality blocs receiving a free 30-day visa on arrival, but that grouping sometimes glosses over minor differences worth understanding if you hold a specific EU passport and want certainty before booking travel.

In practice, the vast majority of EU member state passports, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and most others, are treated identically under the UAE's visa-on-arrival framework: no advance application is required, and the 30-day stamp is issued automatically at immigration provided the passport meets the standard six-month minimum validity requirement. This visa can generally be extended once for an additional 30 days through the standard online extension process, provided the request is submitted before the original visa expires.

A small number of newer or smaller EU member states have occasionally been handled slightly differently in past UAE policy updates, which is why blanket statements about "all EU citizens" should be treated as a reasonable general rule rather than an absolute guarantee for every single member state's passport; anyone holding a passport from a smaller or newer EU member state should specifically confirm their exact nationality's current status rather than assuming EU membership alone settles the question definitively.

For EU citizens planning to relocate for work, investment, or retirement rather than visit, the visa-on-arrival stamp carries no residency or work authorization whatsoever, and a separate application through the relevant route, employment visa, Golden Visa, retirement visa, or one of the self-sponsored categories, is required regardless of how straightforward entry itself is. Given how visa-on-arrival terms have been adjusted periodically across the board, EU travelers should confirm current requirements for their specific nationality directly through ICP shortly before departure.
