UAE Visa Requirements by Nationality: Visa-Free, On-Arrival, and Visa-Required Countries

UAE entry requirements vary considerably depending on nationality, and understanding which of three broad categories a specific passport falls into, visa-free entry, visa on arrival, or pre-arranged visa required, saves considerable time and prevents the kind of last-minute confusion that can disrupt travel plans at the airport.

GCC citizens (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar) enjoy visa-free, unlimited entry using just their passport or national ID, a distinct and more favorable category than even the visa-on-arrival group. Beyond GCC nationals, citizens of more than 50 countries, including the US, UK, EU member states, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore among others, receive a free 30-day visa stamped on arrival, extendable once for an additional 30 days for a fee. As of June 2026, this visa-on-arrival category expanded to include Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya, and South Africa, though eligibility for these newly added nationalities is conditional, requiring the traveler to also hold a valid residence permit from one of nine approved countries (the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, or South Korea) rather than passport nationality alone being sufficient.

Nationals not covered by either the visa-free or visa-on-arrival categories need to apply for an eVisa in advance, generally available in 30-day or 60-day durations, processed through the ICP portal, airline websites, or authorized travel agents within three to five business days. A notable intermediate category exists specifically for Indian passport holders: those holding a valid US, UK, EU, Australian, or Canadian visa or residence permit qualify for a 14-day visa on arrival despite India not appearing on the standard visa-on-arrival list, illustrating how eligibility can depend on more than passport nationality alone. Given how visa-on-arrival eligibility lists and conditions have changed multiple times in recent years, and continue to be refined, travelers should verify their specific nationality's current status directly through the ICP or GDRFA official channels close to their actual travel date rather than relying on older information that may no longer reflect current rules.
