The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) was established in 2005 as a branch campus of George Mason University, Virginia, before becoming an independent public institution in 2009 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. It is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and, since 2022, by the UK's Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
