About Higher Colleges of Technology Abu Dhabi
Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) was founded in 1988 under Federal Law No. 2, issued by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan following a proposal from Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan. It is the largest applied higher education institution in the UAE, operating 16 campuses for male and female students across eight emirates. In August 2023, HCT opened a new campus in Baniyas, Abu Dhabi, replacing its earlier Abu Dhabi city campuses.
HCT serves close to 23,000 students, with women making up around 63% of the student body, and confers degrees at the Applied Diploma, Bachelor's, and Master's levels under Federal Law No. 17 of 1998. Programmes span Applied Media, Business, Computer Information Science, Engineering Technology and Science, Health Sciences, and Education, developed in consultation with industry partners to keep skills job-relevant. Some programmes carry international accreditation, including a Bachelor of Education developed with the University of Melbourne.
HCT was the first educational institution in the UAE to be designated an economic free zone, launching the HCT InnCuVation Spaces to support graduate entrepreneurship, and it also runs the UAE's first Artificial Intelligence Academy. It has achieved 100% accreditation of its academic programmes through the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), and since 1991 has awarded more than 85,000 degrees to Emirati graduates.
