About New York University Abu Dhabi
New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is a degree-granting portal campus of New York University, established in partnership with the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. First announced in 2007, the university opened a temporary downtown site in 2008 for conferences and cultural events before welcoming its inaugural academic class of 148 students in September 2010. In 2014 it moved permanently to its purpose-built campus on Saadiyat Island, within Abu Dhabi's cultural district alongside the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
Designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects, the nearly 40-acre pedestrian campus blends traditional Islamic-village elements with the spirit of NYU's Greenwich Village home, and includes state-of-the-art classrooms, research laboratories, a library, an arts centre, and purpose-built student residences. NYUAD is one of three degree-granting hubs in NYU's Global Network University, alongside New York and Shanghai, and offers 26 undergraduate majors across Arts and Humanities, Engineering, Science, and Social Science, along with graduate programmes including a research-intensive Master's in data science.
As the first world-class liberal arts research university of its kind in the Middle East, NYUAD draws students from more than 115 countries and has produced 22 Rhodes Scholars since opening. Admission is highly selective, and the university is accredited both by the UAE's Commission for Academic Accreditation and, as an additional NYU location, by the US Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
